DESCRIPTION:Perspectives from the Office of the Attorney General—Legal Lessons and Practical Tips for Charities\, Donors and Professional Advisors. \nThe Texas Attorney General reviews proceedings such as will contests and modifications of trusts to assure that the public interest in charity is protected.   Susan Staricka\, Senior Attorney over Charitable Trusts\, will share knowledge gained and recommendations intended to safeguard donor intent and avoid litigation resulting from poor draftsmanship. \nRSVP and Register \nAre you a member and have pre-paid for your lunches for the year?\nPlease RSVP for each meeting here. \nSusan Staricka\nSenior Attorney\, Charitable Trusts\nOffice of the Attorney General \nMs. Staricka is Senior Attorney over Charitable Trusts\, Financial Litigation\, Tax and Charitable Trusts Division of the Office of the Attorney General for the State of Texas.  She has served as an Assistant Attorney General in Charitable Trusts since July 1994\, as Chief of the Consumer Protection Division’s Charitable Trusts Section from April 2001 to September 2012\, and as Senior AttorneyBCharitable Trusts since the integration of the section with the Financial and Tax Litigation Division.  From 1985 to 1994\, Ms. Staricka was in private practice with the Austin\, Texas firm of Brown McCarroll & Oaks Hartline.  Ms. Staricka received her Juris Doctorate degree with honors from The University of Texas School of Law at Austin in 1985 and was admitted to the Texas bar the same year.  She received her preparatory education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison earning a Bachelor of Arts with honors in 1980. \nMs. Staricka served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of State Charity Officials\, an affiliate of the National Association of Attorneys General\, from October 2007 to October 2014.   Ms. Staricka serves on the Advisory Council for Columbia Law School=s State Attorney Generals= ProgramBCharities Law Project in New York City\, New York.  In addition to serving on the Council\, she has served as conference faculty for the Project=s varied Charities= Conferences.   Ms. Staricka presents regularly at the Annual Conference for the National Association of State Charity Officials. \nMs. Staricka is a frequent speaker in the Texas nonprofit and legal community\, including regular presentations at the annual Nonprofit Organizations Institute sponsored by the University of Texas School of Law in Austin\, the annual Governance of Nonprofit Organizations Course and Advanced Estate Planning and Probate Course\, both sponsored by the Texas State Bar\, and for numerous regional associations of nonprofit practitioners\, managers\, accountants\, development officers and philanthropic planners. In addition to CLE presentations\, Ms. Staricka is a regular visiting lecturer at the LBJ School of Public Affairs\, the ACC Center for Community-Based and Nonprofit Organizations and the University of Texas School of Law. \nRSVP and Register
