SUMMARY:Gift Planning and Ethics: Right Here and Right Now
DESCRIPTION:Anyone working in the field of charitable gift planning bumps into situations and circumstances that will test his or her mettle. We live in a time of high stakes and heightened scrutiny\, where an ethical grounding is necessary for the staff and leaders that serve our charitable organizations as well as for-profit advisers that guide clients in giving. In this presentation\, we’ll consider the ethical code as adopted more than 25 years ago by the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning (then the National Committee on Planned Giving) and the American Council on Gift Annuities. This is also an opportunity to look at 17 situational examples that relate to ethics\, relationships\, and technical matters as well as the results of a survey of seminar participants. \nRegister and RSVP \n** NOTE:  The speaker has requested all attendees to fill out and return the below survey to him by Friday\, January 27th.  Instructions to do so are included in the attachment at the bottom of the brief survey. The presentation will incorporate the responses into the program.   Download Survey Form \nTom Cullinan\nThompson & Associates \nEditor\, Planned Giving Today \nTom Cullinan joined Thompson & Associates in 2013 as Senior Vice President to serve nonprofit organizations and their generous supporters. He has more than 20 years of combined experience working as a charitable giving consultant and as a front-line fundraiser and planned giving specialist for nonprofits. Tom has been responsible for facilitating more than $1 billion in charitable gifts. \nHe has been editor of Planned Giving Today since 2011 and served as director of the National Planned Giving Institute at the College of William & Mary. He frequently presents to professionals about charitable giving topics and has delivered continuing legal education in 13 states. \nTom earned his J.D. degree from the University of Nebraska College of Law. He served on the national board of the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning\, and was named to the inaugural class of the PPP’s Leadership Institute in 2011. He is a member of the Corpus Christi Estate Planning Council and the Planned Giving Council of Houston. \nTom resides in Corpus Christi\, Texas. He and his wife\, Kathleen\, have been married for more than 40 years and they have three adult children and four grandchildren.
