Gifts of Real Estate

November 4, 2019 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

James Mayo

Description

Real estate represents a significant portion of the country’s wealth. As such, it should be considered as an asset class for a potential charitable gift. Structured properly, a charitable gift of real estate can not only serve a donor’s philanthropic goals but also provide significant tax benefits and, under the right circumstances, increased cash flow. Let’s discuss the various ways to give real estate and explore the benefits and issues of each.

Speaker

James Mayo
Director of Real Estate
Texas A&M Foundation

James Mayo is the Director of Real Estate Services for the Texas A&M Foundation. In his position, Mayo is responsible for managing the real property assets of the Texas A&M Foundation. He also leads real estate fundraising: managing and marketing gifts of real estate, evaluating real property offered as a potential gift to the Foundation, and working with development staff to present real estate fundraising proposals.

Prior to his time at the Texas A&M Foundation, Mayo was the Manager of Property Management and Real Estate Professional at Whataburger in San Antonio, TX. In his position, Mayo was responsible for the lease renewal process and negotiations for over 670 company-owned restaurants as well as the site selection for Central and South Texas.

After graduating with a Masters of Real Estate from Texas A&M, Mayo got his start in the real estate industry as a real estate broker with United Commercial Realty in San Antonio. There, he leased and facilitated the marketing campaign of more than 2.5 million square feet of retail properties in San Antonio and South Texas and assisted with the implementation of growth strategies for local, regional, and national retailers.
