The SECURE Act – Strategies for Planned Giving

April 6, 2020 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Cindy Atmar

Description

The passage of the SECURE Act in December 2019, which stands for “Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement,” will impact retirement plan accumulations and distributions. As professionals who work with donors and clients to help them achieve their philanthropic and legacy goals, we ened to understand these changes and how they might affect our clients’ and donors’ decisions around philanthropy. During this luncheon, we will explore and discuss the following provisions:

  • The age for requiring participants to begin taking mandatory distributions (RMDs) increased from 70 ½ to 72;
  • While those 70 ½ no longer have to take an RMD, they are still allowed to make qualified charitable distributions (QCDs) , a smart tax move; and
  • The stretch provision on inherited IRAs is not limited to ten years.
